Counting Down To Christmas
Counting Down To Christmas
The Mapp Report
Final act
The last act of
Parliament that the government passed into law this year was
the Electoral Finance Act, which has now received the Royal
Assent. It is now therefore the law of the land.
What a sorry saga this whole business has been and what a pathetic indictment on the government’s sense of priorities.
Clinging to
power
Governments get elected on a
programme that they put to voters, and that was certainly
true of the current government when they were first elected
in 1999. That programme has long since been exhausted and
now it seems all they wish to do is cling to power for
power’s sake, hence the Electoral Finance Act.
We have all seen this before, when governments cling on to power and lose all sight of the purpose as to why they were first elected. It certainly gives truth to the dictum that all power corrupts.
New Year
challenges
Now we look forward to the New
Year. National is ambitious for New Zealand and we have a
lot of work to do. We’ll be building on National’s
vision for a re-invigorated New Zealand and rolling out our
policies so Kiwis can see exactly where we stand.
Christmas wishes
But at this
time of the year, we all have the opportunity to pause and
reflect on the year past, the year ahead and to enjoy the
company of family and friends.
Denese joins me in wishing you and your family warm greetings for Christmas and the New Year.
Dr Wayne Mapp
