Retirement Village Residents Betrayed

Media Release

29 February 2008

Retirement Village Residents Betrayed

New Zealand First housing spokesperson Pita Paraone says the Retirement Village Association (RVA) has sold-out the residents of Crossdale Court in Christchurch by their inaction and lack of support.

“Instead of taking affirmative action they have looked to shift blame elsewhere while these senior citizens stand to lose their homes,” said Mr Paraone.

“The RVA should take some responsibility for these senior citizens and should act quickly to assist them in whatever possible manner.

“The RVA should have been more proactive in ensuring that not only did Crossdale Courts comply with the Retirement Village Act and been registered, it should have also demanded that Crossdale Courts join the Association as a member.

“New Zealand First is deeply concerned over the welfare and the future of these senior citizens and we will be looking into the matter,” said Mr Paraone.
