Simich confirms he will stand down

National Party MP Clem Simich, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, has confirmed that he will not seek a position on the National Party list for this year’s general election.

He will continue in the role of Deputy Speaker until then.

“Before selections were completed, I chose not to be considered for an electorate seat, and have no intention of seeking a list-only place.

“The leader, the president, and board members were informed of my decision many weeks ago, and the National Party caucus has also been told.

“It has been, and is, a real privilege to serve in Parliament as a member, as a Minister, and now as the Deputy Speaker.

“I very much appreciate having been given these opportunities and this seems the right time to move on.”
