Were Ministers briefed on suspect CV?
National Party State Services spokesman Gerry Brownlee says revelations from the State Services Commission that it knew about Mary Anne Thompson’s suspicious CV in 2004 poses more sticky questions for Ministers.
“Did the State Services Commission brief Ministers on that? Did Trevor Mallard as State Services Minister at the time, or former Immigration Minister Paul Swain, get a briefing?”
Mr Brownlee says these are legitimate questions for a Government that already has two Ministers in the gun for what they knew and didn’t do about serious allegations levelled at Mary Anne Thompson.
“David Cunliffe and Clayton Cosgrove were both fully briefed on the previously secret Oughton report relating to unlawful decisions at the Immigration Department. Nothing was done until the media started asking questions.
“Obviously, questions must now be asked of the Minister previously responsible for the department which knew about the suspicious CV, and the Minister in charge of Immigration when she was appointed.”
