Press Release
Cullen Legacy: Record Inflation, Paltry Growth, Surplus Spent

Rodney Hide MP
Thursday, June 5 2008

ACT Leader Rodney Hide today said that the inflation forecast of 4.7 percent completed Finance Minister Dr Michael Cullen's economy failure trifecta - record inflation, paltry growth and high government spending.

"That's Dr Cullen's legacy - record inflation, forecast growth a paltry 1.5 percent and government spending nearly doubled in 10 years" Mr Hide said.

"The Minister's big brag on his latest Budget was that he had spent the lot - as though that's something to be proud of.

"As the country continues to slide, more and more Kiwis are leaving for better opportunities overseas. Labour's policies aren't sustainable, which is why ACT has produced a 20-point plan to beat Australia by 2020. We can do it - but not with Dr Cullen's legacy.

"Thank goodness Sir Roger Douglas is standing this election. Voters will have the opportunity to elect a decent Finance Minister to clean up Dr Cullen's mess," Mr Hide said.
