New questions in the Kahui case

New questions in the Kahui case

Independent MP and candidate for The Kiwi Party, Gordon Copeland, today raised further questions about the unsatisfactory situation which has arisen following the murder of the Kahui twins.

“In particular, constituents have raised with me two issues which I believe merit further consideration,” said Mr Copeland.

“The first question asked is why all of the adults which were in the house where the twins were murdered were not charged with murder or other crimes? After all, they were all living there and did nothing to stop the abuse which had obviously been happening to the twins for some time.”

“This contrasts with the drive-by shooting of a toddler in Whanganui a year or so ago. In that case, everyone in the car was charged with murder.”

“The second question relates to the so-called conspiracy of silence and the non-cooperation of the Kahui family with the Police from day one. I would have thought that those actions, in and of themselves, amount to obstruction of justice and yet that angle has, to my knowledge, not been raised in the media to date.”

“New Zealanders need to have these questions answered by the Police or by the Ministry of Justice. We cannot, in these tragic circumstances, allow evil to triumph. Indeed, as Edmund Burke suggested, evil does triumph if good people do nothing.”

“This matter is so serious that it would be good to see senior members of the legal profession volunteering to assist and help the Police, in every way possible, until the demands of justice are satisfied.”
