Candidates Announced For Te Tai Tonga Electorate


The Maori Party Te Tai Tonga Electorate Council is pleased to announce the names of the three nominees who will be contending to represent the Maori Party in the Te Tai Tonga electorate in the 2008 Elections.

The nominees are:

Georgina Haremate-Crawford (Gina); Ngati Porou – Ngai Tamanuhiri; Rongomaiwahine; Ngati Haua and Ngati Maniapoto;

Rahui Katene; Ngati Koata, Ngati Toa, Ngati Kuia and Kai Tahu;

Hector Matthews; Te Rarawa and Te Aupouri.

"We were thrilled with the interest expressed in this electorate contest" said Raymond Hina, Maori Party Te Tai Tonga electorate co-chair.

"The three successful nominees who will now stand for selection by party members, bring with them some impressive expertise" said Mr Hina.

"Rahui is a well known lawyer and Treaty claims consultant currently living in Wellington; Gina has experience in education, training, and justice and lives in Invercargill; and Hector is Chair of the Christchurch Polytechnic Council, and an Executive Director with Canterbury DHB" said Glenys Papuni, co-chair of Te Tai Tonga electorate for the Maori Party.

"Maori Party members of Te Tai Tonga are invited to voting hui this weekend (12/13 May), taking place in Wellington, Nelson, Picton, Blenheim, Kaikoura,  Christchurch, Dunedin, Invercargill, Arahura and Timaru" said Ms Papuni.

"It is certainly shaping up to a very exciting selection– change is on its way!" ended Ms Papuni.
