Cunliffe: response to Ryall re Health Targets

Minister of Health David Cunliffe said the statement by Tony Ryall was nothing more than a desperate attempt by a desperate political party to divert attention away from their own failings.

"The data released in the Health Targets was independently compiled and as Minister of Health I played no part that process."

Mr Cunliffe said claims of political manipulation were simply untrue.

"The only party caught trying to manipulate health information was National when Tony Ryall wrote to Auckland DHB trying to gag them from releasing any good news."

"He's a desperate man making desperate claims."

Mr Cunliffe said the Health Targets showed some of the many good things happening in health, including the increase in elective procedures.
