Another day, another flip flop by John Key, says King

The number of flip flops that John Key makes in a week would leave the average kiwi motorist breathless, says Transport Minister Annette King.

“Today he has claimed that it has always been National party policy to toll a road only if there is a viable free alternative road for the public to travel on,” she said.

“Yet this is the same member who voted against the legislation brought in by Labour which required a free alternative road to be available.

“Not only did his party vote against it, they went so far as to issue a Minority Report from the Select Committee highlighting their concerns about requirement to have a free alternative route.”

Ms King said National’s idea about what an appropriate toll might be also seems to change daily.

“They’ve flip-flopped from $5 a journey to no tolls, then they thought $3 a journey might be okay, but now that’s apparently been changed to no tools at all.

“The only certainty in all of this seems to be that you can't trust them on anything they might say – at least, not since they’ve once again muzzled their transport spokesman Maurice Williamson.

“Maurice may have made a few gaffs, but I believe he was the only transport spokesman who was telling the whole truth.”
