Housing options need more than words
Housing options need more than words
Labour Party housing spokesperson George Hawkins today called on the Government to provide a comprehensive housing and economic plan.
Mr Hawkins said the National Government’s failed to provide details on how its housing package announced today would make homes more affordable to low income earners or average New Zealanders
“Owning your own home is a the dream of most New Zealanders but the announcement made by National today fails to provide any assistance to most Kiwis.
“As for Mr Heatley’s claim that tax cuts will assist those wanting to buy a home, he is clearly forgetting that low income earners will not benefit from the latest tax cut.”
Mr Hawkins said the announcement today also needed to have been made in conjunction with an economic stimulus package.
“People need to know that they are going to continue to have employment to pay the mortgage.
“Certainty of employment, banks willing to lend to first time home buyers and a stable economy are all important in housing affordability, yet the announcement from Mr Heatley barely recognises any of these issues.
“New Zealanders need a comprehensive plan encompassing all aspects of the economy rather than these ad-hoc statements we are seeing from National,” Mr Hawkins said.
