Phil Twyford says National’s infrastructure plan has nothing but disappointment for Auckland
Labour Auckland Issues
spokesperson Phil Twyford says that today’s National
Government infrastructure plan contains nothing but
disappointment for Auckland.
"Auckland has a third of the country’s population, and is a city that is crying out for continuing infrastructure investment of the sort provided by the last Labour Government, but you would need a magnifying glass to find anything in this package that advances Auckland.
“This package is an opportunity going begging as far as Auckland is concerned."
Phil Twyford says the package contains no mention of projects like the regional rail network, or major roading projects that can be brought forward that would deliver huge economic gains for the city, as well as generating jobs.
"We are facing the greatest economic downturn since the Depression and Government is tinkering. This plan is nothing but business as usual. Auckland needs far more than that. Auckland needs leadership, energy and support. National isn’t providing any of those things.”
