Far North hospitality being hurt by attack

Far North hospitality being hurt by senseless attacks

The traditional hospitality of the Far North is being damaged by the actions of thugs who are targeting and attacking tourists, Labour’s Tourism spokesman Kelvin Davis said today.

“We have to do more to look after visitors to the Far North. We need the co-operation of the service industry to make sure tourists are looked after when they’re enjoying a night out and ensuring they make their way to their accommodation safely,” Kelvin Davis said.

Police are investigating the assault and robbery of two German tourists in the early hours of this morning in Paihia.

Kelvin Davis, a List MP based in the Far North said bar staff, tourist operators and the Far North Community are going to have to lend a hand to stop tourists being targeted.

“The Far North is a beautiful part of the country, with wonderful people and great attractions, so we need to continue to attract tourists here,” Kelvin Davis said.

“As well as showing tourists the natural beauty of the Far North and great hospitality, tourist operators will need to keep clients aware of simple measures to keep them safe.

“Unfortunately this is typical case of a few causing headaches for the many.

“The community must band together to ensure that the only memories tourists take away from the Far North are of a beautiful landscape and welcoming hosts.” Kelvin Davis said.
