Last day for liquor law submissions tomorrow

Labour Justice spokesperson Lianne Dalziel is urging New Zealanders to take the “once-in-a-generation” chance to have their say about the sale, supply and marketing of alcohol.

Lianne Dalziel said tomorrow (30 October) was the last day for submissions to be made on the Law Commission’s issue paper Alcohol In Our Lives.

“This paper is the most significant document I have read on alcohol issues,” Lianne Dalziel said.

“It identifies the very high price that is being exacted on our society by alcohol, and makes the compelling statement that ‘not everyone drinks in a manner that is harmful, but the consequences of harmful drinking affects us all’.

"The evidence in the discussion document says we need to look beyond the 'who, where and when' we can buy and sell liquor if we want to find solutions to the problems the document has highlighted,” Lianne Dalziel said.

“Liquor law reform must also address the issue of how we are drinking, and that is why I hope people in our community take this opportunity to have their say.”

Lianne Dalziel said the commission discussion document could be downloaded at www.talklaw.co.nz or www.lawcom.govt.nz

Submissions can be addressed to liquor@lawcom.govt.nz
