Sharples welcomes new Te Ohu Kaimoana chair
Minister of Maori Affairs Dr Pita Sharples is welcoming the appointment of Ngati Kahungunu's Ngahiwi Tomoana as its new chairman.
“I have no doubt that Ngahiwi will seize all opportunities for Te Ohu Kaimona in this time of great change and challenges.
“Ngahiwi has undertaken some amazing work for Ngati Kahungunu as chair of its iwi incorporation and I know he will have much to contribute to all Maori who have interests in Te Ohu Kaimona,” Minister Sharples said.
Mr Tomoana has been on the Te Ohu Kaimoana Board for three years and was also responsible for the annual Maori Fisheries Conference.
Mr Tomoana will replace Sir Archie Taiaroa, who has been the board’s chairman for the past three years. Mr Taiaroa will remain as a board member.
"Sir Archie showed great leadership on the board and 50 of the 57 iwi now being mandated to receive their share of the settlement is a testament to that leadership.”
