Horomia welcomes new fisheries chairman
Labour welcomes the appointment of Ngahiwi Tomoana as the new chairman of Te Ohu Kaimoana and thanks outgoing chairman Sir Archie Taiaroa for his valuable stewardship, says the party’s Maori Affairs spokesperson Parekura Horomia.
Parekura Horomia also congratulated Ngapuhi’s Sonny Tau on his appointment as the deputy chairman.
“Ngahiwi Tomoana has been on the Te Ohu Kaimoana board for the past three years and will bring plenty of experience and vision to the role.
“He is an able replacement for Sir Archie, whose sage counsel and leadership has helped Te Ohu Kaimoana to chart a steady course forward. The vast majority of iwi are now mandated to receive their share of the fisheries settlement and he deserves considerable credit for this,” Parekura Horomia says.
“I have no doubt that the new team will provide strong leadership going forward. I would like to congratulate them and look forward to seeing the on-going development of this important asset for the benefit of all Maori.”
