Ian Dunwoodie stands for Labour in Manurewa
Manurewa lawyer Ian Dunwoodie is standing for the Labour Party nomination in Manurewa.
After 20 years of loyal service to Manurewa George Hawkins is retiring from Parliament. Ian Dunwoodie, a lawyer, and resident in Manurewa said that he has been encouraged to put his name forward as the Labour Party candidate.
“George has served Manurewa with vigour. I would be very pleased to try to serve our community in the way he has”, said Ian Dunwoodie.
Ian Dunwoodie is the Vice-Chair of the Manurewa Labour Party, a Party member for 23 years, and a former Parliamentary advisor to George Hawkins in the Helen Clark Government.
Ian is 43 years old, a qualified lawyer, and this year has been working with the Auckland Transition Agency as a legal advisor.
He is a member of the EPMU union.
Ian is heavily involved in the local community including the Manurewa Business Association, Manurewa Neighbourhood Support, the local Volunteer Lawyer Roster, and St Vincent de Paul charity.
He is also a member of the Manurewa RSA, the Manurewa Cosmopolitan Club, and the local squash club.
Dunwoodie is a qualified lawyer, and has a Masters degree in Political Studies.
As well as living and working in Auckland and Wellington, he has lived and worked in London and Washington DC, and studied in Tel Aviv.
He has been a lawyer in a commercial law firm, and has worked as a Parliamentary Advisor to George Hawkins in the Helen Clark Government. While overseas he worked on a UK Government Inquiry into sectarian violence in Northern Ireland. This year he has been working as a legal advisor with the Auckland Transition Agency.
