McCully names new diplomatic appointments

Foreign Affairs Minister Murray McCully has today announced the appointment of the new Ambassador to Mexico, Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the World Trade Organisation in Geneva and the next Consul-General in Sao Paulo.

New Zealand’s next Ambassador to Mexico will be career diplomat Christine Bogle.

Christine Bogle has been the High Commissioner to Tonga for the last three years. She previously served as Ambassador to Spain and has had previous postings at the New Zealand Embassies in Lima and Rome. She will take up her assignment in January 2011.

New Zealand’s next Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the World Trade Organisation in Geneva will be career diplomat John Adank.

Mr Adank has previously been the Deputy Permanent Representative to the WTO and UN in Geneva and has also served as the Ministry's International Trade Law Adviser in Wellington. His previous postings include assignments to the New Zealand Permanent Mission in New York and appointment as High Commissioner to Samoa. Since 2007 he has been Director of the Pacific Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. He takes up his assignment in April 2011.

New Zealand’s next Consul-General in Sao Paulo will be career diplomat Jeff McAlister.

Mr McAlister’s most recent role was Deputy Director International Security and Disarmament Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, having previously served in Washington and Seoul. He will take up his assignment in March 2011.
