It's time for Pansy Wong to front up or resign

Phil Goff Leader of the Labour Party

It's time for Pansy Wong to front up or resign

John Key needs to stop making excuses for Pansy Wong and protecting her from questions about her rorting of taxpayers' money. He should force her to front up, says Labour Leader Phil Goff.

Pansy Wong was given one week's leave from Parliament by National's chief whip Chris Tremain. But now the Prime Minister is reported as saying she should stay away until a report into her abuse of the taxpayer-funded travel entitlement is complete.

"She's had more than enough time to think about how much taxpayers' money she's misused to promote her husband's personal business interests. She's been in hiding long enough. John Key knows she should front up and come clean but instead he's conspiring with her to protect her.

"A true leader would hold his MP to account, not deny he has responsibility for her and then shield her from the glare of the media and genuine public concern at how she's rorted the system.

"This is a Government without principles and values."
