Govt must step in to save Taihape
health services
John Key promised Taihape residents that he would save their health centre, which is about to be closed, but he has failed to act, says Labour’s health spokesperson Ruth Dyson.
“John Key told the community just a month ago that everything would be okay. But he’s done nothing to stop the closure of the health centre. That means 50 people will lose their jobs and the community will lose critical health services, including maternity care and the only rest home in the area.
“The Prime Minister made a promise to the community and he should deliver on that promise. Instead he is wiping his hands of the whole situation,” said Ruth Dyson.
Health Minister Tony Ryall told Parliament today that services are going through a “period of transition” and that the community will be kept informed about any changes.
“The Taihape community is sick of hearing weasel words like that. It wants to see action from this Government, so that it can be confident that access to crucial health services will continue.”
