Moroney takes on Labour education role

Hamilton MP, parent and Early Childhood Education spokesperson Sue Moroney is delighted to have been promoted to take on the crucial role of Labour Party Education spokesperson.

"For the past two years I have fought hard against the National Government's cuts to Early Childhood Education and now I look forward to fighting hard on behalf of parents for better education services for Kiwi kids.

"I am also honoured to have been promoted to a frontbench position.

"National has made a total shambles of the education portfolio. The Government has been more interested in blind ideology around National Standards than actually delivering the type of service parents want and expect for their children.

"National's strategy has been to create rifts between teachers and parents in an attempt to damage relationships that are critical to children's education.

"Just this week National decided to tackle the issue of bullying by sending a letter to boards of trustees. This shows that the relationship between National and schools is clearly dysfunctional. If the Government was really concerned about this issue they would have been actively working with schools on it rather than waiting until it hit the media and then sending a letter.

"As a parent with school aged children I know what parents want from their school system and National isn't delivering it. Labour has a strong record on education and I am proud to have been chosen to work on this portfolio.

"Taking on the education and the early childhood education portfolios is a huge responsibility and I am very proud to bring both a parent and a Labour perspective to this important area," Sue Moroney said.
