Phil Goff honours Nancy Wake
Labour Leader Phil Goff today paid tribute to New Zealand born World War II heroine Nancy Wake who died yesterday.
“Nancy Wake codenamed the White Mouse was once the Gestapo’s most wanted person for her work in helping to set up escape routes in France that saved the lives of thousands of allied servicemen during the war,” Phil Goff said.
“Her story is one of remarkable bravery, courage and leadership. She put her own life at risk at save the lives of others.
“The story of Nancy Wake is an inspiring one. While she left New Zealand has a young child we can proud that she always regarded herself as a New Zealander,” Phil Goff said.
