Turia urges constituents to be cautious

Maori Party Co-leader, and MP for Te Tai Hauauru, Tariana Turia, has taken the unusual step of issuing a statement to advise constituents in her electorate to be cautious in making judgments about mis-information being promulgated alleging the closure of kohanga reo and kura kaupapa Maori.

"My electorate office in Whanganui has been rung today by constituents, extremely alarmed at information they are receiving from Mana Party supporters, who are telling them that if the Government gets in they will be closing all kohanga and kura kaupapa Maori".

"Such misinformation is at the least scandalous, and I wanted to move quickly, to assure our constitutents that there is no basis for such wild accusations".

"This sort of behaviour is totally unethical, and I will be writing to that party to express my concern".
