ACT Welcomes Sir Jerry Mateparae as Governor-General

ACT New Zealand Leader Dr Don Brash today welcomed Lt General Sir Jerry Mateparae as New Zealand’s new Governor-General.

“Sir Jerry Mateparae is an exceptionally well-regarded New Zealander with decades of public service. He will make an outstanding Governor-General,” Dr Brash said.

“After joining the Army in 1972 he rose through the ranks to become the first Maori Defence Force chief. Throughout his career he has demonstrated an ability to work with people and earn respect.

“I have no doubt that the commitment that Sir Jerry showed to New Zealand during his career in the military and, more recently, with the Government Communications Security Bureau will shine through in his new role as Governor-General,” Dr Brash said.
