Labour welcomes new Governor-General
Labour Leader Phil Goff has welcomed the swearing in of Lieutenant General Sir Jerry Mateparae as New Zealand’s new Governor-General.
“I personally enjoyed working with him in his roles as Chief of Army and then Chief of Defence Force when I was Defence Minister, and I look forward to seeing him meet the challenges of his new role,” Phil Goff said.
“He has already proven his commitment to New Zealand with his strong record of public service with the New Zealand Defence Force.
“Sir Jerry is incredibly well respected, and I know New Zealanders will become proud to call him their Governor- General,” Phil Goff said.
