Green MP presents ‘Save the Bees’ submission at Parliament
Green MP Sue Kedgley is presenting a submission in support of her ‘Save the Bees’ petition today at 10 o’clock in the Local Government and Environment select committee, in committee room 4 Parliament House.
Ms Kedgley is calling on the Government to urgently reassess a group of Neonicotinoid pesticides which are widely used in New Zealand, and which are highly toxic to bees, and to develop a long term strategy to improve the health of our honeybees.
“We cannot just sit on our hands and do nothing in the face of the global threat of Colony Collapse disorder, which is contributing to mass bee die-offs,” Ms Kedgley said.
“Our bees are already weakened by Varroa, and according to some experts, we have all the pre-conditions for Colony Collapse Disorder in New Zealand.
