Time for National to be CoOL

Time for National to be CoOL

More and more Kiwis want to know where their food comes from, so today I am proposing an amendment which would introduce Country of Origin Labelling (CoOL), Labour’s Food Safety spokesperson Damien O’Connor says.

“New Zealanders want clear information about their food. They should have the same information and protection our Australian neighbours receive about their food.

“Introducing mandatory CoOL would be a good start.

“National is opposed to CoOL and yet it is working to provide foreign markets with assurances of authenticity for New Zealand-manufactured infant formula products, as part of the recommended changes arising from the inquiry into the recent botulism scare.

“Labour’s calling on the National Government to recognise the right of consumers to know where their food was grown; including what system it was handled and processed under.

“National should put Kiwi consumers first and support my Supplementary Order Paper to the Food Bill,” Damien O’Connor says.
