Green Party to focus on issues not sideshows

The Green Party has launched its creative for the 2014 election; Love New Zealand.

The Green Party campaign focuses on the issues where there is concern that we do not love New Zealand enough; our increasingly polluted environment, increased poverty and inequality, and an economy that doesn’t benefit all New Zealanders.

“The Green Party has led the opposition over the past three years on the big issues important to New Zealanders. In this campaign we will continue to be the party that takes it to National where their neglectful attitude is causing real harm,” said Green Party Co-leader Metiria Turei.

“From leading the asset sales referendum, to holding up the SkyCity deal, the Greens have been the effective voice for New Zealanders who feel uncomfortable with the direction National is taking the country.

“National wants this election to be about the sideshows. The Green Party will make it about the issues that are pressing and urgent to New Zealanders now.

“New Zealanders deserve a real debate on how we can build a cleaner environment, fairer society and smarter economy. At the moment loving New Zealand requires real action from all of us.

“Elections should be confronting not comforting. They are a chance to look at our country and ask what can we do better?

“The Green Party will make this election a referendum on National’s six years in Government. When you scratch the surface what is John Key’s real legacy? An environment, society and economy going backwards.

“61 percent of our monitored river swimming spots are too polluted to swim in, 35,000 more kids grow up in poverty, and half of all New Zealanders incomes have stood still or gone backwards.

“Three more years of National will put our rivers, kids and economy at further risk. It’s time to really show some love for New Zealand and build a more prosperous future.

“Our campaign billboards highlight the reality of living in New Zealand under National. Do we love New Zealand enough when kids go to school without lunch, when the act of getting to work means being stuck in traffic or when the Government knowingly increases the serious risk of an oil spill on our gorgeous beaches?

“The Green Party has a credible plan to build a cleaner, fairer, smarter New Zealand.

“We will love New Zealand by making our rivers clean enough to swim in, ensure all our kids have enough to thrive and build a smarter greener economy that benefits all New Zealanders.

“Our key policy planks run counter to the direction National is dragging the country. More pollution in our rivers and beaches, more kids in poverty, and cuts to R&D and a rejection of the wealth and job opportunities inherent in a green economy.

“Clean rivers, thriving children and a smarter economy are all achievable, and delivering them builds a better future for all of us.”
