Vote for the Māori Party on its Merits

29 JULY 2014

MEDIA STATEMENT

Vote for the Māori Party on its Merits

Co-leader Te Ururoa Flavell wants Māori on the Māori roll to support the Māori Party based on its achievements and its co-operative approach to working with other political parties.

“We’ve influenced $3 billion worth of programmes for whānau over the last six years and we’ve brought a kaupapa Māori framework to national politics,” says Te Ururoa Flavell.

“Over the last six years, the Party has brought the health and wellbeing of whānau to the forefront through Whānau Ora, secured the insulation of low income homes, provided free GP visits for children under 13 and created new trade and employment opportunities.”

“Both major parties, National and Labour, have said they would work with the Māori Party as part of the next Government. Yesterday, the Prime Minister advised voters on the Māori roll to give their electorate vote to the Māori Party. This endorsement is a reflection of how well the parties have worked together and I’m confident the Māori Party could work equally as well with Labour.”

“We want voters to judge us on our achievements while we’ve been part of the Government and because they want a strong, independent Māori voice as part of the Government,” says Te Ururoa Flavell.
