Influence of New Zealand First Felt Even Before the Election

The government’s decision to pick up the Tauranga City Council debt on Route K after almost six years of doing nothing indicates the strong influence of New Zealand First coming into this election.

New Zealand First Leader Rt Hon Winston Peters and the New Zealand First candidate for Tauranga Clayton Mitchell committed New Zealand First, in recent Tauranga meetings, to removing the council debt and placing Route K in the State Highway network.

“Clearly the government was panicked into doing something, which New Zealand First welcomes, but not the continuation of the tolls.

“Either Route K is to become a state highway or not and the tolls therefore should be removed,” says Mr Peters.
