Opportunities through Partnership Schools

Budget 2015’s funding of two additional Partnership Schools/Kura Hourua will give more young New Zealanders new options in education, Under-Secretary to the Minister of Education David Seymour says.

“The new Partnership Schools, along with the existing nine Kura Hourua, will allow priority learners to connect with innovative educators, exploring learning paths beyond those offered in the state system,” he says.

“Partnership Schools/Kura Hourua represent a ground-up, community-oriented approach to education, meaning the form they take is determined by the vision of the organisations that pass the robust application process.

“Student outcomes are closely monitored by the Ministry of Education and the Partnership School Authorisation Board, ensuring strong accountability to students, parents, and the communities they serve.”

Successful applicants so far have developed unique learning approaches, drawing from different combinations of Kaupapa Māori, Pasifika, Steiner and military school environments.

Funding has been put aside in a contingency to establish these schools, which are expected to open in either 2016 or 2017
