Callaghan Innovation board appointments


Science and Innovation Minister Steven Joyce today announced the appointment of Alan (Al) Monro to the Callaghan Innovation Board.

Callaghan Innovation was established in 2013 to support science and technology-based innovation and its commercialisation by businesses, in order to improve their growth and competitiveness.

Mr Monro is an experienced director, CEO and executive in the ICT and technology sectors. He has experience in start-ups through to multinationals, and in New Zealand and international markets.

He is Principal and Director at Broadfield Advisory, which he co-founded in 2013 to help New Zealand technology companies expand globally. He also serves on the Boards of Phitek Systems, Umajin, eStar, Baanto and is Chairman of Foster Moore. He was Chief Executive of NextWindow and spent 18 years with IBM in New Zealand and Asia. He holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Canterbury and is a trustee of the New Zealand Hi-tech Trust.

Mr Joyce also announced the reappointment of Robin Hapi to the Board.

“The Callaghan Innovation Board consists of members with a broad range of skills and expertise and the right mix of business and science experience relevant to the high-value manufacturing and services sector.

“I am looking forward to the expertise that Al will bring to the Board, and I also look forward to Robin’s continuing contribution to Callaghan Innovation.”
