So where is John Key's magic bullet now?

John Key’s reliance on research to deal with agricultural emissions may be scuppered by a 20 per cent cut in AgResearch staff in the coming year, says Labour’s Climate Change spokesperson Megan Woods.

“The Prime Minister has always said research would get New Zealand out of the bind that our biggest source of emissions come from our farms.

“However it appears that climate change experts are among the 33 scientists that will be axed.

“The New Zealand Agricultural Greenhouse Gas Centre is hosted by Ag Research on the Palmerston North campus. It was opened by John Key in 2010.

“The chair of AgResearch has made it clear that greenhouse gas research will be reduced as he claimed the work was now being done on farms.

“This is all short-sighted nonsense as New Zealand slips in global emissions ratings.

“What is the future of the Palmerston North centre in the light of these cuts,” says Megan Woods.
