Job advertisements grew in August – MBIE Jobs Online Report

The number of online job advertisements grew by 1.4 per cent in August 2016 and by 14.8 per cent over the year to August, according to the latest Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) Jobs Online report.

Job advertisements rose in all eight industry groups over the month, with the hospitality and tourism industry experiencing the strongest rise (up 2.2 per cent).

The occupation groups with the largest monthly increases were machinery drivers (up 2.7 per cent) and sales (up 1.8 per cent). Job advertisements rose in all skill levels, with the biggest increases for low skilled jobs (up 1.9 per cent) and unskilled jobs (up 1.6 per cent).

MBIE’s Labour Market Trends Manager, David Paterson, says job advertisements increased across nine out of ten regions in August, with the biggest increase in the Bay of Plenty (up 2.7 per cent).

“The strong growth across all industries and occupations points to strengthening labour demand,” Mr Paterson says.
