No Value for NZ in Sending Jobs Overseas
New Zealand First questions why New Zealand Post is laying off more workers and sending their work overseas.
“Hundreds more New Zealanders will lose their jobs over the next two years, with 30-50 people in Auckland and Wellington being pushed out now,” says New Zealand First Leader and Northland MP Rt Hon Winston Peters.
“We understand billing services, financial services, processing of bills and payroll services are being taken over in the Philippines.
“There is no value for the New Zealand economy in moving jobs overseas and putting Kiwis into the dole queue.
“While declining mail services have hit NZ Post there was plenty of forewarning for NZ Post to re-adjust and move its focus.
“Instead of pushing NZ Post to return a bigger dividend to the government as a state-owned enterprise, the National government should have supported it to build KiwiBank, re-invest in new business areas and re-train staff.
“NZ Post has culled hundreds and hundreds of workers – it is time this government started to put New Zealanders first,”
