American Young Political and Policy Leaders visit New Zealand

Arriving this Saturday are seven representatives from the USA, who are visiting New Zealand for a week.

They will be here under the auspices of the America Council of Young Political Leaders (ACYPL) exchange programme.

New Zealand’s Speaker, Rt Hon David Carter, noted the opportunity that the exchange experience provides:

“The programme will enable these young Americans, from different political parties, to get to know New Zealand democratic processes, broaden their skills and their understanding of international relations .”

The group comprises House Representatives from Illinois, Ohio, Pennsylvania and South Carolina; the Mayor of Mountain View, California; and two external relations policy Managers.

“It will be fascinating to talk to these young American political leaders, so soon after their Presidential election,” says Mr Carter.

Their visit follows an exchange visit to the USA by five young New Zealand Parliamentarians in 2015.

In line with the principles of the exchange, the programme will provide an experience of New Zealand’s geographic and cultural diversity and examine national and local government, politics, policy making and history. The visit includes visits to Rotorua, Wellington, Nelson and Christchurch.
