KiwiSaver HomeStart helping more people into home ownership in the Hutt
The Government’s KiwiSaver HomeStart scheme is helping more people in the Hutt Valley into home ownership, says Chris Bishop.
The scheme offers grants for first home buyers to help with deposits on a home, and enables first home buyers to access their KiwiSaver funds.
“In the Hutt Valley we have seen the number of HomeStart grants increase significantly since it was launched two years ago – launched right here in the Hutt by then-Prime Minister John Key and me.
“So far in the Hutt Valley the HomeStart scheme has helped 1,522 people buy their first homes, with grants totalling $7,031,000.
“The grants can help our young people overcome the most difficult hurdle of pulling together the funds for a deposit, and I’m really happy to see that so many people are using it to buy their first home in the Hutt.
“KiwiSaver HomeStart is the most generous government support scheme for home buyers in over a generation, and it’s great to see it being used so widely throughout the Hutt.
“Home ownership provides stability
for families, strength for communities and security in
retirement. The Hutt Valley is a great place to buy a home
and build a life, so it’s great to see the HomeStart
scheme helping more people do that,” says Mr Bishop.
