Bishop launches petition for Kelson Crossing

MP for Hutt South Chris Bishop is calling for the installation of a pedestrian crossing on Major Drive.

“Kelson residents have been calling for a pedestrian crossing on Major Drive for many years but the Council has not acted. It’s time they got on with it.

“The current arrangements on Major Drive are totally inadequate. Cars don’t know whether to stop or keep going at the juncture by the school, even when the school patrol is active. Parents and children regularly wait for some minutes before venturing out to cross the road.”

“The situation is unsafe and dangerous. A pedestrian crossing is needed now so that motorists know they need to stop and so that parents and children can cross the road safely.”

“It’s just common sense that there’s a pedestrian crossing on a busy road near to schools and kindergartens. The Council needs to act.”

“I’ve launched a petition at https://chrisbishop.national.org.nz/kelsoncrossing where people can leave their names and comments about how a crossing is needed. The more people that sign, the better!

The petition is supported by Kelson School, Kelson Kindergarten, Discovery Christian Centre, the Kelson Community Association, and the Four Square.
