Te Ture Whenua Māori reforms relaunch next year

The Ture Whenua Bill has been discharged from the Governments legislative programme said Minister of Maori Development Nanaia Mahuta.

“This decision reinforces the coalition governments view that Maori Land reforms should retain a strong preference to protect Maori land interests while improving supports that would assist in better utilisation.

“We need to reprioritise effort to support Maori Land owner collectives, whanau and hapū who seek to develop the potential of their land and enterprise opportunities”

“A lot of work will be going into the range of reforms that will be proposed for the current Te Ture Whenua act 1993, the detail of which I will be proposing in the New Year,” says Nanaia Mahuta.
