Mental Health and Addictions Inquiry Report

9 October 2018

Green Party mental health spokesperson Chlöe Swarbrick responds to extension for delivery of Mental Health and Addictions Inquiry Report:

“Like many New Zealanders, I am incredibly keen to see the results of the Mental Health and Addictions Inquiry Report.

“The sheer volume of submissions and evidence gathered at public forums demonstrates how passionate our communities are about addressing the mental health crisis in this country.

“I am disappointed that the Inquiry is not reporting back on time, but if an extra month is needed to properly consider the huge swathes of evidence, then it should not be rushed.

“Across the country, I’ve heard of the anticipation Kiwis have for the inquiry’s comprehensive and complete report, and for the Government to subsequently respond with action.

“I urge the Panel not to further extend the inquiry beyond the requested and approved month. People have waited long enough.”
