Parker to support NZ businesses in Shanghai

Trade and Export Growth Minister David Parker will fly to Shanghai on Sunday to support New Zealand businesses’ efforts to expand in the important Chinese market.

As part of his three day visit he will lead New Zealand representation at the China International Import Expo (CIIE).

“New Zealand’s relationship with China is diverse and growing. It is now our largest trading partner, with a range of cultural, diplomatic and economic ties, of which our involvement in the CIIE is one part,” David Parker said.

“I am looking forward to supporting the 100-plus New Zealand businesses who have registered for the CIIE, including over 90 participating in New Zealand’s trade pavilion.

“I recently joined a group of 13 ministers in Ottawa to discuss legitimate concerns about the way the World Trade Organisation is working. I look forward to discussing in China how our two countries can cooperate to support and strengthen the rules-based multilateral trading system.”

David Parker will also open this year’s New Zealand Week in China, an annual 15-day festival promoting New Zealand food, beverage and culture, now in its seventh year.

“With 55 New Zealand brands participating across nine Chinese cities, this year’s initiative will further boost New Zealand’s profile in China.”

David Parker leaves on 4 November and returns on 7 November.
