Luxon’s Cost Of Living Promise In Tatters
New data shows National’s flagship plan to help families with the cost of living is a failure.
National promised 21,000 families $150 a fortnight – but only 153 have received the full amount.
“New Zealanders are struggling with the high cost of living, and Christopher Luxon is making things worse,” Labour finance and economy spokesperson Barbara Edmonds said.
"National has abandoned families that are finding it difficult to cover the weekly shop and pay the bills. It’s no wonder that a record number of Kiwis are packing up for Australia.
“The latest figures show Christopher Luxon’s flagship cost of living programme has failed. A year in, only 153 people have received the full FamilyBoost entitlement for the entire year.
“When National tried to fix their failure, the best they could do was to make struggling families wait until April 2026 for just $7 a week, which is barely enough for a block of butter.
"Christopher Luxon has been making excuses for nearly two years. People are sick of it, and it shows how out of touch he is.
“People cannot afford another three years of this Government. Labour will prioritise help with the cost of living, and proper investment in jobs, health and homes,” Barbara Edmonds said.
