Alliance Proposes New Wealth Tax
Alliance leader Jim Anderton confirmed yesterday that the Alliance Party intended significant changes in the New Zealand tax regime. Alliance wants more revenue from tax and is proposing a mixed tax system, which would include wealth taxes.
Mr Anderton has not released a detailed tax policy, but has confirmed a shift towards wealth taxes and tariffs, including such things as a capital gains tax, stamp duty and estate duty.
Brian Neeson, MP for Waipareira said: "Alliance polled badly in the last elections due to its progressive tax system and is apparently trying a different tactic this time around".
Mr Neeson went on to say: "Jim Anderton's economic polices are loony tunes - they will drive New Zealand backwards as a civilized forward thinking country.
