Labour can't stand good news

Today's official Household Labour Force Survey figures which showed another fall in unemployment has irritated opposition MP's, said the Hon Roger Sowry, Minister of Social Services, Work and Income.

The HLFS survey released by Statistics New Zealand today showed unemployment continued to fall, from 7.2% in the March quarter to 7% in the June quarter.

"Anything which is good news for New Zealand makes Labour mad," he said.

"I get really sick of their negativity and doom and gloom predictions. Surely if less people are out of work, we should all be pleased?"

Labour policy seems to be against everything, even falling unemployment figures. 'What a grim bunch."

Mr Sowry said that locally there is some good evidence of job creation.

"I've been working in the area with the One More Worker programme, which has already started showing great results," he said.

"They've proved you get much more achieved with a positive attitude, rather than sitting around moaning that it's all the Government's fault."
