Many people have little idea what MPs do. Party List MPs do exactly the same job as Constituency MPs. The difference is that on non-sitting days Constituency MPs work from an office in their electorate, whereas List MPs are usually allocated by their parties to look after a geographical area or a special interest group.

Annabel was nominated by the National Party in her home electorate of Wellington Central. National List MPs have gone through a complicated selection process where they have to be supported in their home electorate and their home region. They are then ranked by a national committee. The Party vote determines how many MPs each Party will have in Parliament.

What qualifications does Annabel have for Parliament?

Annabel has a law degree, an arts degree in political science and a Diploma in Accounting. She is admitted as both a Chartered Accountant and as a Barrister and Solicitor.

Annabel was a tax specialist before she went into Parliament. She has also spent nine years as a Territorial Army Officer in the Signals Corps.
