More Controls Needed On Greedy State Servants

New Zealand First will end the culture of greed and lack of accountability in the State Sector.

The Leader, Rt Hon Winston Peters, said today that it is outrageous that the Police Commissioner and Inland Revenue Commissioner received significant pay rises in the year to June.

“Peter Doone presided over a huge computer failure and cost blowout. Graham Holland’s Department bankrupts the small people and lets the corporate tax dodgers go free.

“As for the State Services Commissioner’s statement that top civil servants are not being paid as much as they should be and could be lured into the private sector, we say that few employers in the private sector would be stupid enough to hire these people at huge salaries.”

Mr Peters said that New Zealand First will introduce a Code of Responsibility for State Officials, and Cabinet Ministers, to keep them under control.

“We can go back to the eighties and thank Labour for the present system of taxpayer funded get rich quick schemes for state servants,” he said.
