Time to speak for children

"I find it of some concern that the Medical Association seems so adamant that mandatory reporting of child abuse would be detrimental to children", said Commissioner for Children,

Roger McClay, in reaction to reported comments by Pippa MacKay the Medical Association Chairwoman.

"It irks me to think that any doctor might so willingly fill in claims forms to ACC to be paid for treating a child's wounds, but not feel inclined to report non-accidental injuries to the Police or to Child, Youth and Family Services.

All adult New Zealanders, and more especially professionals in health and welfare services need to speak out for children who cannot speak for themselves".
