About time superannuation football was retired

“State funded superannuation has been a political football for 27 years and it is about time it was retired as a partisan issue, Wellington Regional Chamber of Commerce President Barrie Saunders said in a statement today.

He was commenting on calls for political parties to try and reach a broad consensus on superannuation policy.

“The business community would like to see political leaders do what the Government expects other sectors to do – work cooperatively in the national interest.”

“Clearly no political party has a monopoly on wisdom. Just because previous efforts to create common policies have failed is no reason to knock the proposal currently being advanced by one party.”

Mr Saunders said that in addition to the state funded pension, there are related issues linked to savings and investment, which are all vital to the future well being of the country.
