Genes Into Cows Decision

Nga Kaihautu Withdraws From Appeal Against ERMA On Its Human Genes Into Cows Decision

Nga Kaihautu Tikanga Taiao [Maori advisory body to ERMANZ] after several days of discussions with ERMA have determined to withdraw as a party to the appeal.

The politics behind this are complicated and messy and the full details are as yet unknown. Needless to say, it was a very difficult situation they were in and it was a difficult decision for them to make.

Whether resignations from Nga Kaihautu follow remains to be seen, but it may depend on whether the Government determines to change certain members of ERMA (whose warrants are evidently up for review shortly).

A notice of withdrawal will be filed in the High Court today - Friday

We understand that a joint press release will also be issued.

Despite this Nga Kaihautu are still entirely supportive of the stance on the High Court application appealing ERMANZs decision to approve the human genes into cows application, and will provide tacit support where possible.

Ends.
