Tauranga Toll Bridge commentary

Tauranga Libertarianz candidate Russell Watkins has a simple solution to the council stealing the bridge's toll money to enrich their coffers: "Sell it to the highest bidder, and use the windfall to slash our rates!"

"Are people really surprised that the Tauranga District Council reneged on its promise to stop the tolls? asked Watkins. "This is an ideal business for someone to pick up, and at the same time to remove the Tauranga District Council from a job they should never have had, and to slash our rates bill. Everybody wins!"

"The only way the bridge-users will get what they want is to sell the bridge to people motivated by profit. This is the history of capitalism, every dollar spent is a vote for that company. I can already see lower prices coming as a result of marketing lower rates for off-peak usage" Watkins mused.
