Probation Workers Walk Off The Job

Probation Workers Walk Off The Job
This
morning PSA members in Nelson and Christchurch were
suspended for taking lawful and limited industrial action in
support of a new collective agreement. Community Probation
workers all over NZ have today responded by walking off the
job in support of their suspended colleagues.
The limited industrial action which the suspended workers had taken involved not implementing new work practices. However they had continued to perform their duties as Probation Officers and Administrative Officers.
"In response to this limited and lawful action, the CPS took a heavy-handed approach by suspending staff. This reaction is indicative of the style of management that has frustrated Community Probation officers over a long period, and has led to poor trust in the employment relationship", said PSA National Secretary Richard Wagstaff.
"PSA members will return to work tomorrow to see if their colleagues have been reinstated. If not, they will discuss their next step," said Richard Wagstaff.
